This message board has been provided to let Kennesaw residents communicate with others regarding the error that the City of Kennesaw made in approving a Pawn Shop as one of the businesses in the Mack Dobbs Point strip mall at 2953 N Cobb Pky. (NE corner of Mack Dobbs and Cobb Pky) Community efforts were made in the Fall of 2004 to make sure that the proposal to re-zone the 2.9 acres of land included restrictions on the type of businesses to be opened on that land. One of the excluded types of business was 'Pawn Shops'. In September 2011 an error was made by the City and a Pawn Shop was given a license and opened in the strip mall 2 months ago. This situation is fully documented and this information is found at: kennesawpawnproblems.blogspot.com/ please take the time to review this information before commenting. If you would like to contact the City about this issue you can reach them at: Kennesaw City Hall 2529 J.O. Stephenson Ave. Kennesaw, Ga. 30144or just email them: Mayor Mathews:mmathews@kennesaw-ga.govThe City Council:bthrash@kennesaw-ga.gov cwelsh@kennesaw-ga.govbjenkins@kennesaw-ga.govjduckett@kennesaw-ga.govtkillingsworth@kennesaw-ga.govCity Manager Kennedy:770 429-4544 skennedy@kennesaw-ga.govZoning Administrator Simmons:770 590-8268 dsimmons@kennesaw-ga.govThe purpose of this board is to exchange views, information and suggestions. It is not a free fire zone for angry or intemperate comments, those will be removed. Comments are solicited from residents, City officials, the property owner, his attorney and the business owner.

If this were Chicago or NYC I would suspect someone got bribed, but here in small town Ga. that isn't likely. Someone just goofed and if I were to place a bet on this, I would say that you homeowners are pretty much screwed. I doubt the city is going to do anything at all about this.

Several things below I thought of as well. Sorry I don't mean to go on but nothing irks me more than seeing small business owners attacked for trying to make a living in this economy. I have no interest in this business. I don't even know these people. However it just makes me ill to see folks railroaded when again (as if we don't know already) it's the governments mistake.
1. Honestly if you buy property backing up or adjoining a vacant parcel or a vacant commercial parcel then one cannot expect to be able to control what is built there. Unless they can buy it. The open ended nature of a commercial strip center backing up to my neighborhood is just a no brainer. Who would buy there? As the center gets older it's going to get worse. Apartments, long term hotels, and commercial properties in 99% of cases are never better than the first day they open. Its all down hill from there. That's why the wise buyer does not buy property near these areas. I have been here over 20 years and when this neighborhood went up I asked myself "who buys here"? Remember the cardinal rule of real estate...." Location, Location, Location".
2. This pawn shop should be the least of anyones worries. Talk about crying after the cow gets out of the barn. There are loads of apartments, long term hotels, palm readers, trailer parks, liquor stores, and etc. that line Cobb Parkway all the way from Marietta to Cartersville. Who with any common sense buys property backing up or adjacent to this major artery and expects to control what is built there? Where was everybody when the flophouses and palm reader shacks went up? Hell thats only 50 feet from the darn pawn shop??
3. What is wrong with a Pawn Shop? Honestly can someone on here give me three good reasons pawn shops should be banned? Also how in the devil do you ban a legal business? If this was an Arab Mosque it would be fine. Let a guy try and run a business and see what he gets.
4. Have the people that are mad about the pawn shop thought about moving? You can rent out houses these days. Have you considered giving your money to some guys who work for a living moving people instead of all these attorneys your are hiring?
5. What about people like me who like and support pawn shops? Do I not have the right to shop where I chose? Why not ban the tax service, the long term hotel, the palm reader, the homeless shelter, and all of it and then drive the land lords out of business. You know they are evil? They own property don't they? They must have stolen the money to buy it right? Sure. Then we can have empty buildings rotting all up and down what is effectively main street Kennesaw. Great. Just great. That will do everyone a lot of good and will certainly contribute to the long term stability and appreciation of our real estate values.
6. In case you have not noticed the US, the state, the local governments are all broke. It doesn't take a rocket surgeon to figure this out. So what part of driving a business and its tax contribution out of our community make sense? Did any of the local trades here paint, hang sheet rock, supply drinks and food for the work crew that did the work? Yep they sure did. So there again these folks have added to the local bottom line.
Folks lets all just take a deep breath here. This is not some kind of den of ill repute over there. This is a nice little store run by a family just like yours and mine. Would you want to be attacked and slammed on TV and in the news for trying to make a darn living??
No. I think not. How about extending a welcome to these folks? Have you been in the shop? Have you met them? Try it.

Sorry PS
Has anyone noticed that huge DOUGS MUSIC AND PAWN shop sign on Main Street in downtown Kennesaw? You know thats about 100 yards form the city government complex. I know the shop is closed but that guy wasn't sacrificing small animals over there either. No one has died because he had a shop there. No one was in need of an exorcism due the fact that a pawn shop operated over there. He was a very nice man running a business. I shopped there a lot.
Just sayin..........

You sure like to post on this topic. Are you the shop owner or related to that person?
As I understand it the subdivision was built over about 3+ years starting around 1998 to 2002. That whole section of property from Summerbrooke, through Summer Stream up to the right of way to Cobb Parkway was zoned residential.
The plot not built on for homes, where the mall ended up, was residential until the change in 10/04, long after the last houses were built and sold to owners. When ALL those folks bought the property at Cobb and Mack Dobbs was residential, so they had a bunch of years where it sat just with trees etc. They didn't know it would end up zoned for business in 04.
So what is so unreasonable about them now complaining that the city should live up to the agreement from 04 where a lot of stuff was agreed to that would not be built there.
Either Superdogg can't understand this logic or he is the shop owner who is putting up fake posts to support keeping the pawn shop in that mall.

Thanks a lot Jim. You seem to be a bit narrow minded and challenged with regard to reading comprehension. Why don't you go back and re read my posts? Where were all you crybabies back in 04 when this went commercial then? You guys are going to cry about a pawn shop when there is a felon holding pen in the form of a pay by the week flop house next door? Go run a check on one floor of that place and then come back here with a straight face and tell me about it.
This is a joke. You guys are just a bunch of anti business cry babies.

Oh and PS Jim. You need to go cry to the mayor, the clerk, and the rest of your government friends. This is their fault. You cant tell me with any credibility that this is not the complete fault of the city. So I hope you enjoy your bigger tax bill on your mansion behind the strip mall. Thats where we are headed when you upper crusters get too big for your britches and have to carp about hard working folks. Seriously you saw what was built around this neighborhood before you moved in. This pawn shop is better than that.
